RANDOM THOUGHTS…

Welcome to Jenn’s RANDOM THOUGHTS…, which will now be a reoccurring Friday feature on my blog. Feel free to send me your random thoughts!

1- Why isn’t cotton always preshrunk? I hate buying things a bit bigger in hopes that after I wash and dry it, it will be the right size… and I equally hate it when my hubby doesn’t read tags and shrinks my favourite khaki pants in the whole wide world, or I have to have laundry strewn all over my apartment so it can dry stiffened in an itchy shape.

2- Please everyone: stop wearing Angel perfume. I don’t know what it is about that perfume but it makes me throw up a little in my mouth.

3- The very first sip of a Tim Horton’s iced cap is pure ecstasy. The rest is delish, but there’s something about that first sip before it starts melting that is sooooo good!

4- TURN OFF YOUR BLINKER!!!! When you’re driving, how do you NOT hear that “tick-tock, tick-tock” of your turning signal incessantly BLINKING?!?!?!

5- Voicemail is great- but please follow the instructions when I say, “Leave a short message…” (Dad)

How far is too far?

I think blogs are a fantastic platform for sharing ideas, making bold statements, expressing freedom of speech, and so much more. I have found that keeping a personal blog has helped me fulfill a inner creativity, a imagination-muscle I hadn’t flexed since high school. I love sharing some of my inner thoughts with the world (and having them be so well-received! Thanks everyone!). However, I often find myself compelled to write about certain topics and yet I hold back because of their controversial nature. I figure I shouldn’t get too political or delve into particular subjects because, by doing so, I risk offending someone (who could be a regular reader who decides to stop reading my blog or a potential employer who doesn’t agree with my stance and doesn’t give me a job because of it).

But then again, isn’t it more admirable, respectable, commendable, if I am brave enough to make whatever claims I like? Didn’t we fight for freedom of expression so we could exercise that right? Weren’t the world’s greatest writers  great because of their audacity and fearlessness to put forth unusual or unconventional ideas?

Recently I’ve really wanted talk about the fact that Florida just passed a law in Senate requiring women in their first trimester to have an ultrasound before the procedure. But I know this can be an extremely touchy and personal topic, and perhaps this blog isn’t the forum for a debate of this nature.

What do you think?

A new idea!

When you’re freelancing and fending for yourself, there is a very biiiig learning curve. In the last year I’ve learned that it’s okay to say no to paid work, that I am worth more than $10 for 400 words, and a few other useful tricks I’ve picked up along the way that I won’t disclose (or I’d have to kill you).

This blog has been such an eye-opener for me – it was extremely daunting to publish the first post and put my personal feelings and thoughts out there in the world. But everyone has been so supportive and given me such a boost of confidence that I can’t deny how special this blog is to me. There’s nothing more gratifying as a writer than having people seek out and choose to read your blog because they want to. And then, when you don’t blog, you start getting emails: “hey, when do I get to read your next blog?” “everything okay- no blog posts for awhile…”

So, I will now be blogging three times a week – MONDAY, WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY, so you’ll know exactly when to look for a blog post. I think I’ll also start a reoccurring Friday theme, but we’ll save that for Friday!

See ya Wednesday everyone!
